You’ve just had the longest day ever and all you want to do is roll into bed. You think about taking your makeup off, but you’re just so exhausted that you can’t find the energy to do so.
Before you roll into bed for the night, take off your makeup. Even if it takes every last ounce of energy you’ve got left. Why, you ask?
Your Skin Can’t Breathe
A full face of makeup does you well during the day when you’re awake, but at night, you’re not doing your skin any favours. Removing your makeup at night allows your skin and your pores to breathe, but they’ll be suffocating if you’re leaving a day’s worth of makeup, plus any oil accumulated throughout the day.
These of course, look cute on no one. Sleeping in mascara, eyeliner or other eye makeup can block tear ducts or cause inflammation in that delicate eye tissue. Long term, constant eye infections or particles left behind because of makeup can lead to abrasions on the cornea. Plus, if you’re always dealing with eye infections, you won’t be able to wear makeup anyway 😦
You’re Bringing the Outside, Inside
Your bed should be a retreat after a long day. But it won’t be a very nice one if it’s full of bacteria. Even if you work in an office, you’re still coming in contact with lots of dust and allergens from the environment. When you head to bed without washing your face, you’re bringing in that dust (and probably some germs from the person who sneezed on you on the train) into your bed.
Wearing the day’s makeup to bed can cause cosmetics like foundation to settle into the fine lines in your face, thereby making you look older than you are. Stave off having to by that jar of anti-aging serum for a few more years by simply washing off your makeup at night.
So even if you just made it home from an awesome night out with the girls, take the 5 extra minutes to wipe off your makeup before you head to be so you can keep looking gorgeous for years to come!
